Hawaiian Beach Party raises over $26,000
An evening of fun and entertainment was enjoyed by all who attended the La Palma Community Foundation’s 3rd Annual Hawaiian Beach Party Sept. 14 at the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel & Resort.
Board President Michele Steggell welcomed more than 150 guests and thanked them for their generous contributions to the Foundation’s mission of “providing financial support to enhance public safety, promote a partnership with schools, students and seniors in La Palma.”
About $26,000, as well as sponsorships, was raised for the Foundation’s many programs and services.
La Palma Police Chief Kim also thanked everyone for attending and explained one of the programs that the Foundation supports entitled “Every 15 Minutes” which refers to the statistic that someone is dying every fifteen minutes in this country from drinking or texting while driving.
A brief video was shown where Kennedy High School students portrayed various roles including being victims of an auto collision injury and fatality because a student had been drinking.
Guests enjoyed a traditional Knott’s Berry Farm chicken dinner, were entertained by the Martini Kings and had the opportunity to bid on Silent Auction items and win a $500 raffle.
Steggell is already planning an even bigger event and venue next year.
“I hope everyone who attended this year to support our Foundation will continue to be involved in our community. La Palma is a wonderful city filled with great people.”
La Palma Community Foundation was founded by Steggell to provide a conduit to connect charitable individuals, corporations and organizations to provide assistance in helping to improve the lives of all La Palma residents.
In addition to the “Every 15 Minutes” program, the Foundation also provides funding for two Kennedy High scholarships to students interested in pursuing a career in public safety, and funding for the Police Interaction with Youth (PIY) program for three elementary schools in La Palma.
